Last night marked 39 years since members of the Manson Family cult murdered actress Sharon Tate, her unborn child, actor Wojciech Frykowski and his girlfriend (and heiress to the Folger Coffee fortune) Abigail Folger, celebrity hair stylist Jay Sebring and teenager Steven Parent. Today is the anniversary of the cult killing grocery chain owner Leno LaBianca and his wife Rosemary at their home. The LaBianca's were slain due to Charles Manson's dissapointment that the murders of Sharon Tate and the others hadn't resulted in the public panic Manson wanted.
Unlike the murders the night before, Charles Manson himself came to the murder scene with his "family", however he once again let the others do his dirty work and left the house before the murdering commenced. The following night, the murders were discovered by Rosemary LaBianca's son from a previous marraige. Unlike the house in which Sharon Tate and her guests were murdered, the LaBianca house still stands. It remains a private residence.

Also on this date in 2004, the Empire State Building dimmed its lights for 15 minutes in honor of Fay Wray. The King Kong actress had passed away 2 days prior. It had been a very special moment for me a few years prior when I was able to sing Happy Birthday (as part of a crowd of fans) to Fay on her 90th birthday, which she celebrated at the Dryden Theatre in Rochester NY. Fay Wray was a talented and beautiful woman who was witty even in her later years. She is missed.
