Forks Chamber of Commerce
The visitor's center of the Forks Chamber of Commerce offers a deluge of Twilight-related material for any visitors to the area. Among their collection are a variety of maps of Forks, Washington and the surrounding area; including various locations that are connected to the Stephenie Meyer's Twilight Saga that might be of interest to fans. Actual locations that were used in the fictional series are the focal point of the self-guided tour, while there are three locations that are part of the tour that stand in for fictional locations from the book. They were chosen because they come closest to matching locations created by an author who had only read about Forks while writing the first novel in the series.
Locations used in the novels that are part of the self-guided tour include Forks High School, Forks Police Station, Forks Outfitters, First Beach, Quillayute Prairie Cemetery, La Push and the Forks Community Hospital. A local bed & breakfast and a privately-owned home have been substituted as the homes of Edward Cullen and his family, and Bella Swan and her father respectively.
The Forks Chamber of Commerce at one point provided driving tours for interested fans, but those duties have now been passed to the private company, Dazzled by Twilight (see Related Sites below) - who offer a wide variety of choices for fans to partake in. However, the self-guided tour is also available via their Web site below.
Bella's Truck
The visitor center of the Forks Chamber of Commerce also offers a perfect photo opportunity. As the town began to be overrun by fans of the Twilight novels, various local businesses pitched into an effort run by Bruce Guckenberg, owner of the town's Sully's Drive-In, to purchase a replica of the fictional truck driven by Bella Swan. The end result was the donation of a 1952 Chevrolet pickup to the Chamber of Commerce that was spray-painted red in true Twilight fashion. While most visitors have been thrilled to pose for pictures next to "Bella's truck," one took their fandom a little too far. In January 2009, the Peninsula Daily News reported that one over-eager fan stole the truck's authentic chrome gas cap. At last report, the staff had been unable to track it down (an eBay tip did not produce any results) and it had yet to be replaced. |
