Information
Lost
The Java Trench (also known as the Sunda Trench) lies nearly 200 miles West of Indonesia. The trench is nearly five miles deep and 1,616 miles long. The trench sits at 10°19'S, 109°58'E. This is where the salvage ship Christiane I appears to locate the wreckage of Oceanic Flight 815 in both the TV show Lost and the tie-in alternate reality game, Find 815.

Find 815 ends with the apparent discovery of the passenger plane by the salvage ship, which was actually searching for The Black Rock, a slave ship that vanished in 1881. It was suspected that the ship had sunk in the trench. The Black Rock was discovered not on the ocean floor, but far inland on the island by the survivors of Flight 815 in season one of Lost. The Christiane I's discovery of plane wreckage in the Java Trench (referred to as the Sunda Trench on the show) is confirmed in the second episode of the fourth season.

The episode raises further question as to the nature of the found wreckage, as pilot Frank Lapidus states during a flashback that the dead pilot shown in the cockpit of the underwater Flight 815 is not Seth Norris, the man who was actually flying the plane when it went down.

Near the end of season four the plane at the bottom of the trench was revealed to be a decoy planted by Charles Widmore.
