The Blob
The town of Phoenixville, Pennsylvania was used as a filming location for the 1958 sci-fi horror film The Blob. The Colonial Theatre, a local home and the town's elementary school were all used in the film.
Blobfest
Every July since the year 2000, the town of Phoenixville has hosted the Blobfest. It commemorates the town's ties with the film. Classic 50s cars are put on display. Vendors line Bridge Street, selling food and memorabilia. The theatre hosts panel discussions, showings of classic sci-fi/horror films (as well as The Blob itself), amateur film contests, screaming contests, tin foil hat contests and more. The theatre also holds a re-enactment of the panicked movie-goers fleeing the theatre as they do in the film. The Blob itself even puts in an appearance, as the owner of the original prop brings it to be displayed.
