Aleister Crowley
From 1899 until 1913 this location on the shores of Loch Ness served as the home of occultist Aleister "The Beast" Crowley. Crowley chose the home because it met his criteria for meditation and communicating with his "Holy Guardian Angel". Followers of Crowley's Thelema believe Boleskine to be a focal point for mystical energy and it serves as a sort of Mecca to their faith.
There are rumors of strange happenings around the property. There are claims that Crowley's spells caused demons and spirits to inhabit the home, drove a servant insane and caused a local butcher to sever his own hand. According to some tales there is a secret tunnel linking the home to a cemetery nearby. Some tales also speak of a church that once stood on the site. The story goes that the church burned down, killing the entire congregation.
Jimmy Page
Led Zepplin guitarist and Crowley fan, Jimmy Page owned Boleskine House from the early 1970s through the early 1990s. The home also appears in the Led Zepplin concert film The Song Remains the Same.
The house is a private residence currently.
