The Edgar Allan Poe Cottage and Poe Park
This cottage served as home for author and poet Edgar Allan Poe from 1846 until his death in 1849. Poe moved to the cottage in New York in the hope that the country air would soothe his wife's tuberculosis. Alas, poor Virginia died of her ailment in 1947. Poe died only two years later while paying a visit to Baltimore, Maryland. During his time in the cottage Poe wrote the poems Annabel Lee, The Bells and Ulalume.
The cottage was moved from its original location in Fordham to the Bronx and is run as a museum now. It features furniture and items that may have belonged to Poe and his wife. It also includes an audiovisual presentation on Poe's life. The cottage has been restored to match the color and appearance it had during Poe's time living there. The land surrounding the cottage is a park named after Poe.
