Giants in the Mountains: The Search for Sasquatch
The State Capital Museum and Outreach Center in Olympia, Washington was the setting for this yearlong exhibit that focuses on the Pacific Northwest legend of Bigfoot (or Sasquatch). The exhibit examined all aspects of the legendary creature from possible evidence of its existence to outright hoaxes. Artifacts and artwork from Native American tribes in the area depicted how the creature was embedded early in the history and culture of the Pacific Northwest. Evidence (including foot and hand casts and more) collected by Idaho State University's anatomy and anthropology professor Jeffrey Meldrum and Washington State University anthropologist Grover Krantz were also on display. Additionally, the exhibit also featured examples of how the legend of the Sasquatch has resonated into pop-culture, including everything from photos of the Seattle SuperSonics mascot, Squatch, to bottles of Sierra Nevada's Bigfoot Ale.
