The Vampires of Griswold
In the early 1990s, it was discovered that erosion had caused the remains of the Walton family to surface from their private family burial plot on their abandoned farm. Nearly 30 graves were then excavated by archeologists. The graves are believed to be from the 18th and 19th Centuries. The researchers discovered signs of tuberculosis among the deceased. Tuberculosis was at times mistaken for vampirism in the times before the 20th Century. One grave in particular showed signs of having been disturbed deliberately. The bones of the deceased had been arranged in a pile, with the skull resting on a cross made from the femurs at the very top. The display suggests an attempt by someone to prevent the deceased from rising from his grave.
