Haunted Theatre
This annual Halloween haunted attraction is put on by the Mission Creek Players at the Pressroom Theatre in Wenatchee, Washington. Haunted Theatre got its start in 2002 when the members teamed up with a local radio station to promote a fundraiser and has been going strong ever since. Now an annual event, the group transforms the Theatre into an interactive walk-through haunted house that consistently re-invents itself each season.

The group begins planning for the new season of Haunted Theatre in June and July when they decide upon a new theme. From there, the room designers take the idea and transform them into the sets and scenery that makes up the roughly 4,000-square-feet haunt. From concept to the teardown at the end of the season, somewhere between 60 and 80 volunteers have put in their time to provide the chills. The event attracts an average of around 2,500 visitors each year and the proceeds of the event are used to fund the theater group, as well as are shared with other local charities.

The Attraction
The Mission Creek Players go out of their way to completely re-imagine, redesign, and rebuild Haunted Theatre every new Halloween season, so every season offers something completely new. The haunt is advertised as an interactive "theatrical haunt" where guests are part of the action, as well as even have a storyline to follow sometimes. Because the group is trained actors, they forego the animatronics and concentrate on providing the scares through their acting, alongside special theatrical effects, such as lighting, fog, and sound. Roughly 35 actors might be found inside the attraction (made up of a dozen or more rooms and dark maze areas) on a given night, relying on both timing and misdirection to catch their guests off guard.

Aside from the haunt itself, the group entertains those outside with a DJ and music, a fire dancer, occasional rock bands, and concessions provided by another local charity. The Mission Creek Players have even started their own tradition every Halloween. After Haunted Theatre has officially closed down after its last performance, the group puts on one final free show for their guests with a ritual dancing of The Time Warp from The Rocky Horror Picture Show outdoors.
