Magic Screams
This Halloween Festival has been held at the Magic Springs and Crystal Falls amusement and water park in Hot Springs, Arkansas since October 2005. It is billed as "Arkansas' Biggest Halloween Festival." The Magic Screams festival's motto is "Family by day, fright by night." To this end the event is split between family-friendly activities and attractions during the day and scary haunted attractions during the park's evening hours.
Family By Day
The daytime activities at Magic Screams are scare-free and designed to provide fall entertainment for young visitors. Kids can trick-or-treat using a treat bag given to them at the entrance to gather candy from various stations throughout the park. Daytime visitors can visit Spooky Springs, a haunted attraction designed to be tolerable for young children. The Creature Feature show gives audience members an up-close experience with some of nature's creepiest wildlife. Scare Time Photo gives customers the opportunity to have Halloween-themed photos taken of them in an antique style.
For an additional fee, visitors can purchase pumpkins and paint them. Children's television show character Bob the Builder wanders through the park, greeting guests. The nighttime activities in the park also include a couple of family-friendly shows (see below).
Fright By Night
In the evening, the ghouls come out to play at Magic Screams. Actors in scary costumes, masks and makeup wander the park's scare zones, looking to terrorize visitors. The Phobia House of Fears is the first of the park's two haunted attractions intended for older visitors. The attraction plays on the intense fears of phobics to create nightmares of claustrophobia and arachnophobia among others. The Murder Mansion haunted attraction places visitors into a house full of rampaging murderous maniacs.
A couple of the nighttime activities are safe for younger audiences. Scary-oke karaoke gives customers a chance to publicly perform their favorite Halloween hits. The other tame nightly attraction is the Dead Elvis Review, a stage show featuring Elvis songs performed with a whimsically macabre Halloween flavor.
Visiting Magic Screams
Besides the attractions mentioned above, visitors to Magic Screams can also ride on many of the amusement parks regular rides. The festival has also been known to hold special mini-events that last for a single day or weekend, such as chili cook-offs or dance parties.
