Information
The Realm of Darkness
This Halloween haunted attraction has been haunting Pontiac, Michigan since 2001 and has gained the reputation of being one of the top haunts in the United States. Producer and owner Denise Siess has worked in the industry since 1976 on non-profit haunted houses before finally opening this attraction in 2001. The haunt is spread out over 25,000 square feet and attracts an equal amount of visitors each year.

The Story
The story behind The Realm of Darkness concerns a castle and the surrounding village. For years, the villagers avoided the castle and the wizard believed to live inside. Their fear slowly degraded their minds until the villages were driven insane. Mad and crazed, the villagers stormed the castle and entered. When the doors slammed shut, no one was ever seen again.

The 2008 Flood
In January 2008, the attraction suffered a major disaster. Weather conditions outside had caused the pipes and sprinklers inside the haunt to freeze and ultimately burst. The water flowed for seven days and caused extensive damage to the structure. Of the 57 rooms inside the haunt, 27 were destroyed and the rest underwent extensive cleaning to de-mold and de-rust throughout the spring and summer months. Siess told the Detroit Free Press in early October 2008 that the flooding had caused over $200,000 worth of damage, a small amount of which was offset by insurance. The crew worked hard to repair the existing sets and introduced 33 new rooms. Perhaps even better was the addition of three new concepts: a wolf den, hall of mirrors, and ghost ship. The new ghost ship is 25-feet long and over 12-feet high and actor manager, Michael Vitale, claims to be "...the single largest haunt build probably statewide."

Information
The Realm of Darkness is an interactive haunted house, which challenges its visitors to use their minds, while being terrified by the sights and sounds of medieval times. The haunt evolves throughout the season with tweaks and adjustments to guarantee that visitors that come to the haunt at the start of the season could have a much different experience if they go through again at the year. In recent seasons, the attraction has offered double the admission costs back for those that could solve the clues and face the Wizard.
