Two Days Before the Music Died
The Riverside Ballroom in Green Bay, Wisconsin was the site of the second to last performances of Buddy Holly, Richie Valens and Jiles "The Big Bopper" Richardson. They performed there as part of "The Winter Dance Party" tour on February 1, 1959. At a little after 1:00 am on February 3, 1959, all three perished in a plane crash in Iowa.
In 2003, the Riverside Ballroom revealed a stainless steel memorial sculpture created by artist Ken Paquette. Paquette had previously built a similar memorial to the dead musicians at the crash site. The memorials consist of a scupture of a guitar along with three records bearing the musician's names.
