Screamers House of Horrors
This year-round-haunted house attraction is a relatively new addition to the Clifton Hill area of Niagara Falls, Ontario in Canada in comparison with some of the other haunts in the general area. However, since its opening in April 1998, Screamers House of Horrors has quickly made a name for itself in the area, as well as the industry; making it a popular stop for the tourists that descend upon Niagara Falls.
Set up like a traditional haunted house, the true terror in the Screamer's haunted house is not what the guests can see, but more so what they cannot. The walk-through attraction is set in almost complete darkness with red LED lights providing a slight glimpse of a path to follow and the occasional actor suddenly letting the visitors know that they are not alone. Some of the startles include a truck barreling down the hallway, the presence of "Tony the Tongue", and perhaps the worst of all... The room where there is no escape.
The Chicken List
For those that can't handle the scares of Screamers House of Horrors, the haunt offers an opportunity for escape. When it gets too much, one only needs to yell out "Screamers!" and their journey will come to an end. However, their cowardice will be rewarded by being added to the haunt's own "Chicken List" (see site below). As of this last modification, 70,000 people of the estimated one million tourists to pass through the haunt have received this dubious honor.
The Very Real Scare of 2008
In August 2008, the haunt made the news for its own very horrifying situation. On August 25, a young girl between the age of 10 or 12 suffered a seizure towards a particularly intense area of the attraction and suffered cardiac arrest and stopped breathing. Fortunately, an alert employee of the haunt quickly took control of the situation and administered CPR and revived the girl who was then safely transported to the hospital.
