The Village
Sleepy Hollow, NY is the site used in Washington Irving's classic tale The Legend of Sleepy Hollow. The village was actually called North Tarrytown up until 1997 when the name was officially changed to take advantage of potential tourism and honor the memory of Washington Irving.
It is home to the Old Dutch Burying Ground... the fictional resting place of the Headless Horseman. Washington Irving himself is buried in Sleepy Hollow Cemetery, which surrounds the Old Dutch Burying Ground.
October
Every October the village of Sleepy Hollow hosts a number of Halloween-themed events. Multiple tourist sites, business and the town itself get involved in this celebration of both Halloween and Irving's The Legend of Sleepy Hollow.
