Billy Lyons
An unmarked grave in Section 5, Lot 289 of the Saint Peters Cemetery marks the final resting spot of William "Willie" Lyons, who died at the hands of Lee Shelton on December 25, 1895. The murder was the basis of the murder ballad, Stagger Lee. Lyons shares the plot with his brother-in-law, Henry Bridgewater.
Stagger Lee shot Billy
Oh, he shot that poor boy so bad
Till the bullet came through Billy
And it broke the bartender's glass
(Lloyd Price - Stagger Lee)
Allen Britt
Similarly, Allen Britt's final resting place is an unmarked grave in Section 5, Lot 9 of the Saint Peters Cemetery. Britt was shot and killed by one Frankie Baker on October 16, 1899. Though the accounts of the events vary, his death would become legendary in the murder ballad, Frankie and Albert, which later became more well known as Frankie and Johnny.
Frankie drew back her kimona
She took out a little forty-four
Root-to-toot three time she shoot
Right through that hardwood door
She shot her man
He was doing her wrong
(Traditional - Frankie and Johnny)
