Twilight (2008): Petite Jolie
This hair salon in Saint Helens, Oregon was one of several locations throughout the city that made an appearance in the 2008 vampire film, Twilight. The movie was an adaptation of the bestselling novel of the same name by author Stephenie Meyer that became a major sensation and was spawned into a series of books. Though the books are set in the very-real city of Forks, Washington and nearby cities of La Push (see Forks, Washington and La Push, Washington under Literary Sites) and Port Angeles), the filmmakers opted to use locations in the greater Portland-area of the state of Oregon for the film.
In reality, this facility is home to the Angel Hair Salon in the city of Saint Helens. However, for Twilight it was transformed into the dress shop known as "Petite Jolie," where the characters shop for prom dresses. In the novel, the scene is set at an unnamed dress shop in the city of Port Angeles, Washington. Fans of the books typically consider Port Angeles's Gottschalks (see Twilight Saga: Gottschalks under Literary Sites) to be the actual department store depicted in the novels. However, the store goes by a different name and is actually much smaller in the film adaptation.
For the production of Twilight, the set designers for the film utilized the nearby business, Jilly's, to furnish the dresses seen in the film. Those dresses are still on display at Jilly's a few doors down. As for Angel Hair Salon (Petite Jolie), the salon also has a memento from the production. Twilight director Catherine Hardwicke's director's chair was donated to the salon and is still proudly displayed inside.
The Location Today
Reportedly the owner of the Angel Hair Salon is very excited about the production of Twilight, in which she was even given the role of an extra. Even so, it is an active business that continues to serve customers from the area. Please show respect to both the business and its patrons when visiting.
