Information
Wallace, Idaho
Colonel William R. Wallace founded this town in northern Idaho in 1885 as a central point for his mining operation. Wallace would quickly become the hub for the richest silver mining operations in the world and turn out more silver than any other area. As such, the town quickly filled with men eager for the work and prostitution and gambling became the norm. In fact, there were four working bordellos in town until 1988, when all were quickly emptied when word leaked that the Federal government was about to raid them. Ironically enough, the town now features the Oasis Bordello Museum in one of those facilities, which commemorates the history of prostitution in the town.

Over its history, Wallace has survived fires, shoot-outs, labor wars and even the tragic May 1972 mine fire that took lives of 91 miners. Today, the city is known as "The Richest Little City in the World," and still has several working mines in operation. It was also predominately featured in the movie Heaven's Gate and the setting for another film called Dante's Peak. In 2004, Mayor Ron Garitone proclaimed it "The Center of the Universe" and placed a special manhole cover in the middle of town to mark the spot. Wallace still resembles its "frontier" past and has become a major tourist stop for those seeking "Old West" destinations or others that travel to nearby Coeur D'Alene.

Historic Jameson Restaurant Saloon and Inn
Theodore Jameson constructed and opened this hotel and restaurant in 1889. Like the rest of the town, its main source of business came from mining and prostitution. Over the years, the facility would serve as a brothel, bar, and restaurant and would escape most of the natural disasters that struck the city of Wallace. In 1989, the facility was completely restored during the filming of Michael Cimino's Heaven's Gate. In 2005, Art and Carol Stephan would purchase the Jameson and reopen it as a restaurant and hotel, which it remains to this day.

Maggie, The Ghost of the Jameson
The story goes that a woman by the name of Maggie came to the Jameson Hotel several years ago and checked into Room 3. Her lover had recently struck it rich with a claim and had taken a quick trip back East, but had promised her that he would return shortly and then they could be married. She had come to the hotel to await his departure, but the weeks turned into months and the months turned into years and her lover never returned. Finally one day, several years later, she gave up hope and finally left the hotel. However, many believe that after she died, she returned to the Historic Jameson Restaurant Saloon and Inn to resume her wait.

She is reportedly sighted often in Room 3 or elsewhere in the hotel, dressed in a long, flowing Victorian dress. Some even report seeing her in the mirror. Guests that stay in the room have found themselves locked in the room itself or even the bathroom and have to wait for the staff to arrive the next morning to be let out. There are even reports of antique hairbrushes that are believed to belong to Maggie that appear suddenly in front of the mirror. Still others have reported hearing a soft woman's voice in the night when no one else is around.

The Rowdy Saloon
Another interesting haunting at the Historic Jameson Restaurant Saloon and Inn involves the old saloon. Staff members and some of the guests have all reported hearing several people laughing and talking in the bar when no one is in there. When people go to investigate, they find the bar empty but can still hear the voices coming from all around them. Sometimes the voices last only a few minutes, while other times they can continue for hours. On occasion, some of the voices start arguing loud in disagreement and witnesses fear that a fight or shots will follow, but fortunately that does not seem to happen much.
