Haunted Cemeteries |
Book |
3/1 |
| By Edrick Thay |
|
Overview by TheCabinet: A guide to cemeteries that have grown the reputation for their paranormal activity, Haunted Cemeteries covers various graveyards from the United States, as well as a cemetery in both Canada and Egypt (if you count The Valley of the Kings as a cemetery). Stops include Bachelors Grove Cemetery, Robbins, IL, Hollywood Forever Cemetery, Bucksport, Maine, and more. There are 19 cemeteries covered and the entries range from first-hand accounts to dramatic re-tellings of the ghost stories. Unlike most books from Ghost House Books, this one lists the name of each cemetery as the chapter headings and includes its location in the table of contents. However, like other books from the publisher, no further indexes are included to find specific people or legends. It also concentrates solely on the tales associated with each cemetery and doesn't bother with tourism information (like availability or directions), so readers will have to research further if they are interested in visiting.

Haunted Halls of Ivy: Ghosts of Southern Colleges and Universities |
Book |
0/0 |

| By Daniel W. Barefoot |
|
Overview by TheCabinet: This book explores the famous alleged hauntings on campuses across the American South. Around 40 campuses are covered from 13 states and explore the campus legends and firsthand accounts of paranormal activity. Among the various universities covered is the University of Mississippi and the various haunted locales located on the campus. Obviously, this particular book is limited to the Southern states, but there is plenty of meaty material to seek your teeth in. Author Daniel W. Barefoot does an admirable job of covering the tales with the utmost respect and sincerity, while taking the content seriously and not discounting it is as simple campus lore. The book will probably be of the utmost interest to students that attend any of the various universities included, but offers more than a little for everyone. The chapters are arranged by state and universities, though unfortunately there is no index to find a particular building or personality quickly. The addresses and/or location of the buildings on campus are also not included, so further research will be required if one plans to visit there. Even then, some of the sites covered include dormitories or active classrooms, so public access is very limited.

Haunted Halls: Ghostlore of American College Campuses |
Book |

| By Elizabeth Tucker |
|
Overview by TheCabinet: This book is not so much a travel guide or directory of haunted spots on the college campuses of the United States so much, as it is more of a collection of common urban legends and folklore that pop up in such locations. It even includes an index dedicated solely to type and motifs of the stories. That said, it does contain many ghost stories (whether urban legend or not) from U.S. universities that were passed along to the author by students that actually attended the schools. However, if your interest is specifically interested in ghosts, this book is probably not for you. Mixed among the ghost stories are very specific urban legends around suicide (where the roommate gets automated A's) and other assorted campus folklore, such as the virgin-testing mythology of the walking statues at the Arts Quad of Cornell University. However, if you are interested in American mythology and folklore and how they evolve and expand into their modern day forms, this is fascinating exploration of unusual campus-based beliefs. There are plenty of colleges covered, though I noted several exclusions of famous haunted cases. However, that really is not the focus of this book.

Haunted Highways |
Book |
3/1 |
| By Dan Asfar |
|
Overview by TheCabinet: One of many offerings by Ghost House Books, Haunted Highways specializes in the stories of ghosts and strange paranormal activity reported on roads around the world. Locations in the book include Highway 365, Arkansas, Emily's Bridge, Resurrection Cemetery, and more. Though the stories are recounted in dramatic re-tellings that separate from reality and historical fact in favor of giving the legends a good campfire ghost story twist, author Dan Asfar does an admirable job. Like almost all of the books by this particular publisher, there is no index and the chapters are given sensational headlines rather than list which roads are covered, so the reader is forced to read through the book to find the actual locations of the tales. Little information is provided to pinpoint exactly where on a particular road someone might look into the accounts, but the book does serve as a good introduction to the accounts of the paranormal on public roads.

Haunted Hikes: Spine-Tingling Tales and Trails from North America's National Parks |
Book |
5/1 |
| By Andrea Lankford |
|
Overview by TheCabinet: A guide that covers the often spooky and dark tales from the national parks of North America. The guide is all-inclusive and covers such subjects as the paranormal, cryptozoology, UFOs, Native American legends, and infamous crimes. Probably one of the darkest hiking guides you will ever find. Listings include parks throughout the United States and Canada, and include such stops as Crater Lake National Park and The Fairmont Banff Springs hotel, among many others. All in all - one of the best guides of its kind with fascinating tales and excellent writing. It leaves you with a whole new outlook on our national treasures. Author Andrea Lankford even includes maps and trail information (complete with "fright factor" ratings for their creepiness value) about each park and the potential difficulties awaiting hikers that dare the walk.
