Dark Traveler Library > S

This is a library of books and DVDs on Amazon.com that we have compiled that may be helpful in further planning trips to macabre sites. Almost all of these resources were used in researching data for Dark Destinations.  We have provided our own overview/mini-review of each resource as a way to highlight its usefulness when it comes to planning trips or simply finding new locations.  We have also compiled a list of useful Internet Resources that offer further information that can be useful in planning a trip.  In addition to these resources, every location on Dark Destinations lists external links as well as further resources available on Amazon.com that lists more information about that given location.  More resources will be added to this library over time as we sort through our own collections, so please check back often.  If you know of a book or a DVD that fits the profile and is missing from the list, please Let us Know and we will be sure to get it included here.  Feel free to add your own ratings and/or comments to each of the resources below to further aid fellow dark travelers.

Shot On This Site: A Traveler's Guide to the Places and Locations Used to Film Famous Movies and TV Shows Book
3/1
No Comments
By William A. Gordon
Overview by TheCabinet: A decent guide to movie and television filming locations around the United States (with the odd exclusions of Idaho and North Dakota). While the guide covers all genres, there are a few horror film locations included, such as The Exorcist Steps, Dunsmuir House & Gardens (Phantasm and Burnt Offerings), and Timberline Lodge (The Shining). However, its horror offerings are light and some notable horror films like Halloween, Night of the Living Dead, and Dawn of the Dead are ignored entirely. Regardless, the book contains some good information about the locations about how they appeared in the film, as well as what changes might have been made since, and even includes the actual addresses to each locale. The states are broken up by region in the table of contents and the book does contain indexes for movie locations, television locations (although rather light), and oddly film personalities that are mentioned. Outside the table of contents, there is no index for states and none at all for individual cities covered. Though light on horror films, it is a worthy inclusion for its breakdown of films shot in individual states that are otherwise ignored in favor of California-based locales.
