Hey B-Independent.com,

Well, A&E finally decided to show this thing, so I queued up the DVR and got my hands on it finally. Definitely impressive.

**Spoilers**
It lost me a bit when the boy was thrown in the psych ward and all hell broke loose, since it was very subtle up to that point.
**Spoilers End**

Still, definitely one of the better TV pseudo-dramatizations I've seen. I wonder if any of the other "Haunting in..." shows turned out as good? It was a series of shows for awhile I think. I've definitely seen a Haunting in Georgia listed, but didn't grab that one.

I've seen this 6 or 7 times over the years and still get creeped out. I"ve loaned my copy out numberous times and usually get the same feedback; "you were right, it's one of hte scariest things I've ever seen."

HinC is a great example of capturing mood. The docudrama fashion in which it's told like The Blair Witch with better cinematography. None of the dialog is trite or cliched; it's just real people reacting to their situation.

I've seen a few episodes of the series, which came later, and some are just as effective. The budget was oviously lower for the 1/2 hour series, but the minimalist exercise in storytelling works for me. Like HinC, some of the cases have to do with Ed and Lorain Warren, and Ed's death is factored into the second and third seasons. A few weeks ago I was able to catch a number of the episodes and Discovery was running them in the early evening, about 5 or 6pm. I didn't even know their was a series until I happened across them. I think they might be available on disc.

I actually just watched one on a haunted nightclub in Kentucky. Pretty fascinating, especially since the man that owned it pretty much said he didn't believe in ghosts. Went to the nightclub site yesterday and what do you know... A whole lot of info about the haunting.

I remember that episode well.

I was at Walmart last night and saw that they had the first two seasons for $20 as part fo their halloween sale. Of course i picked it up along with a stack of $5 horror discs.

Let me know what you think. I am still curious. I watched another of a couple that moved into a Seattle apartment and had ghosts from a drug deal gone bad thing. The only odd part and kind of disappointing thing is that they never seemed to back-up that anything of the sort had ever happened there. Also, the acting was definitely down a notch from the others I have seen.

I'm sure you have heard, but Haunting in Connecticut is getting the big screen treatment now with Virginia Madsen. For some reason, I just can't imagine it topping the TV version.

Neither can I. I think I've said it on here before, but even since I saw the TV version I've felt it's the most perfect 2 hours of horror televsion ever produced, and far better than most theatrical films. I'm sure the new version will be FX'd up, but if they can keep the core emotions and the family striff, especially with the cancer kid, they should be able to have emotional weight in the story to create proper scares.

As soon as I saw HiC I thought it would make a fantastic feature, but the minimalist approach the TV version takes puts viewers right in the action. Even with the narrator, it still hits all the right buttons that all the Blair Witch-inspired mock/psuedo docs miss.

Agreed. The shadows/lighting in the basement room was really creepy. I think you mentioned the minimalist-acting before and you nailed it there, especially with the mock-doc reference. It did maintain that air of documentary-type believability in it that will most certainly be lost in a Hollywood adaptation.

Reminds me of the German film REQUIEM and its American cousin, THE EXORCISM OF EMILY ROSE for two completely different takes on the same story.

I'm curious to what you think. It is a very understated psychological study of the same case, minus all the glitz, f/x, and absurd "trial" sequence.

I just realized I read this case 15 years ago in Germany while we were stationed there. I was bored and read every Ed and Lorraine Warren book in the dinky Wildflecken library.

Both this story and one about the Smurls (made into a movie with Sally Kirkland called The Haunted?) were very unsettling.

For those interested, Discovery is replaying both Haunting in Connecticut (on the 30th) and Haunting in Georgia (on the 28th) this month. Has anyone seen the Georgia one?

No, but since the one is hosted on Google, I wonder if the other is, too, somewhere.

Yes, I have, and it's nowhere near as good as Connecticut. From what I remember, it's more traditional in execution.

I'm not sure why these aren't on dvd yet, I'd sure as hell love to buy Connecticut....

In a way, I am kind of glad to hear you say that - The DVR is getting way too full already. And Daphne is right - It is on Google! Cool... Actually watching it over that might add some creepiness to it too - like it was some YouTube submission.
