I just realized I read this case 15 years ago in Germany while we were stationed there. I was bored and read every Ed and Lorraine Warren book in the dinky Wildflecken library.

Both this story and one about the Smurls (made into a movie with Sally Kirkland called The Haunted?) were very unsettling.

somehow, I never noticed this thread.

THE HAUNTED turns up on Stars Mystery channel all the time, and not just during Halloween. The first half hour is great; it's a wonderful exercise in economical storytelling. Eventually, it just starts covering the same territory as HinC.

I've never been able to find any of the Ed and Lorrain books. Every couple fo months I'll check eBay (times are tight) to no avail. None of the local bookstores carry them and I can't justify paying full price.

Amazon.com and Ebay books are two of my favorite things on the planet. In years to come, maybe Guttenberg.com will have more of a horror depth, too.

I do have to admit - I've always cringed somewhat whenever the Warrens showed up on some show. I've always wondered were they just that good that they were involved in all the real bizarre cases or were they just real good about getting themselves some publicity. There for awhile, it seems whenever there was something really creepy happening, the Warrens were not far behind with a filmcrew in tow.

Lately, my attitude has changed a bit. As I've watched as a curious observer, the paranormal "investigator" field has changed and grown and the Warrens seem to get very little respect from the folks in the field these days. To me that is really a shame. Regardless of what you think of them, they were real trailblazers of the field and kept it in the spotlight for years. If it weren't for the Warrens, there probably wouldn't be a Ghost Hunters or the like. I know their involvement in the Amityville case and its subsquent fall-out really plays a part in that (and for Hans Holzer), but I give them serious credit for standing by their story, experiences and beliefs about the case, despite the allegations.

Obviously Ed's death has played a role in the lack of exposure as of late, but Lorraine is still active in field from what I know. It is really strange that someone that used to be the default go-to for any of this stuff is now basically shunned by the current field and/or the world of television.
