What are your thoughts on Dexter getting a run on CBS? I actually disagree with a lot of the commentary out there in that I really don't think they have to edit out too much - at least to the point of making it too short and/or unwatchable. Sure, some language needs to be trimmed, but the violence and/or "corpses" aren't overly different than what you might see on CSI or the like.

I could be wrong... We'll see... I am going to tune in and watch the first couple of episodes at least if for nothing else than getting another chance to watch it!

well, they have to cut out 1/4 to 1/3 of the show to fit in commercials (hour-long broadcast shows actually run 40-44 minutes). that's really some major trimming that's going to have to take place. you can trim ends of scenes, but it looks like entire segments are going to have to go.....

In a VERY surprising move, CBS actually edited down Dexter eps to an average of 50 minutes, despite the standard 44-minute run. Just fewer commercials, which is never a bad thing. But Dexter didn't typically fill its 60-minute slot anyway - I'd guess maybe even below 55 minutes? It was somewhat significant because Showtime experimented with starting Brotherhood directly after Dexter this season, rather than wait for the "on-the-hour" moment to try and carry over some of the audience. The experiment worked BTW, though annoyed me to no end because they dropped the "Next Week on Dexter" previews.

I actually have heard that very little has been trimmed for its network debut. I guess we will see tomorrow night! I am thrilled to see all of the advertising that they have put behind it as well.

A few new "friggins" and Deb seemed like a much more gentler version of herself, but all in all... Pretty much the same old Dexter. Pulled in 8 million plus viewers, so CBS has to be thrilled.

before season 2 started, direcTV aired season 1 as a free marathon of which i only caught an episode or two but noted how it much have been edited due to all the "figgen"'s rather than f-bombs. i later rented all of season 1 and saw just what a trashmouth Deb actually is.... Wink

what you saw was probably what DirecTV aired months ago.

Well it is still wasn't enough for the Parents Television Council to get off CBS' back. Now they are calling on affiliates to pre-empt the show because CBS didn't quelch any of the show's violence. I still struggle to see the difference between the level of violence/carnage on Dexter versus shows like CSI.

Oh well, I guess it just means that we're several more years from Bad Taste: The Series. Wink
