I recently had the pleasure of reading “The Rising” and “City of the Dead” by Brian Keene. If you love Zombies like I do, you will surely enjoy this two book horror survival set. The zombies pictured within the book are not the typical ones as seen in ‘Night of the Living Dead’ nor are they anything like those from ‘28 Days Later’. I won’t tell you more than that but it certainly adds a unique spin on the zombie genre.
The basic premise to story is involves 3-4 main characters on a quest to find a surviving child. It then carries into a second book and concludes there, explaining as it goes along.

The imagery and descriptions are absolutely amazing. The writing flows and stops appropriately ending and begining the scenes. Brian is a literary genius. You will read through this fast and not want to put it down. * For added realism, read in a dimly lit room or by candle light and if possible during a storm.

If any of you have read this, perhaps you can share your take on the story. I enjoyed his writing so much that I am thinking of picking up a few of his other books as well.
Any thoughts ?

None yet but thanks for the push. I desire someday to have more in my library that Lovecraft, King, Straub, and Barker.

It's good to branch out, and suggestions like this are great.

I've read both of these books and a couple others as well; Dead Seaand The Conqueror Worms.

The first one was very similar to The Rising/City of Dead books in that it involves a zombie apocalypse, although from a diffenent source, with much of the story taking place on the ocean. The second, Conqueror Worms, is again apocalyptic but this time from a flood of biblical proportions brought about by black magic. That one has a kraken raising hell, along with giant killer worms, and is basically told with two storylines, one involving a group living in high rises in a flooded city, and the second with an old man living on a mountain who must battle the giant worms of the title. The liked TCW quite a bit and recommend it highly. So far, I've not been disappointed with Keene. I have another, Urban Gothic, on my shelf.
