Anybody else ever read these books? They were a series of movie monster-related books that came out in the 70's and 80's, usually identified by their orange and black covers.
Ah, the memories of obsessively checking these books out from the school library. They're not very informative (in fact some of the information in them is just plain wrong), but they are utter nostalgia.
They're kind of hard to find now (just blew twenty five bucks online for four used children's books), but I have to have them! 
My favorites were Daughter of Dracula, Godzilla and The Mole Men.

| Wow, that's a blast from the past. I read probably every one of these I could find in the library. For some strange reason, I only really remember the Werewolf of London adaptation. I think probably because it took me years to finally track it down. |

I googled Crestwood House Monster series and stumbled upon this blog! I think it is great that so many people remember these!
I grew up as well in the late 70's and 80's in the midst of Star Wars and slasher films. If it was not for these books, Famous Monsters of Filmland/Forry Ackerman I would not have had the love for classic monster movies I have today. These were only available orginally to libraries due to copyright problems with Universal Studios (except the Blob which is not a Universal film). You could still buy the Blob in new condition up to the mid 1990s from any bookstore but the others were not available after Crestwood sold to Random House (who never reprinted them). I checked them out from our local library and the school library. When the purple ones came out they held back all titles until I checked them out.
I have all but three of the orange ones in non-library condition and the other three all are ex-lib.
Of the purples I have all 12 in non-library. I also have one advertisement poster and the teachers kit.

Rick Stoner published a two part article about the series in issues 6 and 9 of Stoners Monster Mayhem
Fellow fan Richard Olson (who lives where the books were published) interviews the publisher and also gives the ISBN for the entire series supplemented by snippets of trivia.

Oddly enough the Canadian Magazine, Rue Morgue, has a short article by James Burrell on the series in issue 92 on Noosestands now!
Rosen Publishing group has been passed the torch and published a very similar series to Crestwood in the last few years. Almost the exact same titles, same page number, same book size etc but different content. Dracula, Frankenstein, Wolf Man, Creature from the Black Lagoon etc are all in the series called Famous Movie Monsters.
